Audi RS 6 quattro, commonly referred to as the RS6, is the highest performing version, and top-of-the-line specification of the Audi A6, Audi S6 is positioned above. It is a mid-size sport-focused executive car, produced by high-performance private subsidiary quattro GmbH, for Audi AG, part of the Volkswagen Group.
The first and second versions of the RS6 is produced as a five-door five-seat "Avant", Audi's name for a real car-station wagon and four-door five-seat sedans. The third generation is only available as an Avant.
Overview
The "RS" initials are taken from Germany: Rennsport - literally translated as "racing sport", and the end of the 'top-tier' high performance Audi trim level, positioned real step above the "S" level specification Audi models usual variety of model line-up , Like all Audi "RS" model, a pioneer RS6 some of the latest and sophisticated techniques and technologies Audi, and so can be described as a vehicle halo, with RS6 latest has the most powerful internal combustion engines of all Audi models, with more horsepower and torque than the more physical large Audi S8. In contrast to the A6 and S6, however, the engine in the C5 and C6 RS6 iterations have not been shared with other vehicles in the Audi lineup. But for the C7 generation, Audi RS6 has a 4.0L V8 biturbo engine which is the same as the Audi RS7, with both positioned at the top of the Audi S and RS range, and a detuned variant of the same engine found in the Audi S8, Audi A8, and Audi S6 ,
Based on the A6 platform, this RS6 internal combustion engine and a front-mounted longitudinally oriented, while the transmission is installed immediately at the rear of the machine in a longitudinal orientation, in the form of a transaxle. As with all S and RS models, the Audi RS6 is only available with a 'trademark' Torsen-based quattro permanent four-wheel drive system.
C5 RS6 is the fourth model to come out of the private subsidiary of Audi, "quattro GmbH". The first is the Audi RS2 Avant, from a joint venture between Porsche and quattro GmbH for the Audi marque. The second is the Audi S6 C4 Plus, produced from April 1996 to July 1997. The third is 2000 Audi RS4 B5; The fifth was 2005 B7 Audi A4 DTM Edition sedan, and the sixth is the 2006 Audi RS4 B7. Seventh and currently (as of January 2010 quattro GmbH is the latest model of the
Audi RS 6 C6.
The original production of the Audi RS 6 C5 started in June 2002 and ended in September 2004. The second and the current Audi RS 6 C6 was introduced at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show. The original RS6 is the first Audi RS model exported to North America, while successfully C6 RS6 is only sold in Europe.Competitor for the Audi RS 6 has included a BMW M5 and Mercedes-Benz E55 / E63 AMG.

Genuine Audi RS 6 quattro C5 (Typ 4B) is the top-of-the-line of the Volkswagen Group C5 platform (1997-2004), and was originally available as a five-door five-seat Avant - Audi's name for an estate or station wagon , A four-door five-seat sedan / saloon followed shortly after the launch of the Avant. Derived from the Audi S6 C5 (itself derived from the Audi A6 C5), RS6 also shares aluminum structure of the firewall and forward with the C5 A6s with V8 engine (A6 4.2 V8 quattro, S6 sedan / Avant). It was produced from July 2002 until September 2004.
Official performance figures for the Avant, while consuming a high-octane 98 RON recommended "Super Plus" unleaded gasoline shows 0-100 kph (62.1 mph) dash will be completed in 4.6 seconds (s), reaches 200 km / h ( 124.3 mph) in 22.8 seconds (22.6 s for the saloon). Official figures expressed an electronically limited top speed of 250 km / h (155.3 mph), though most "RS" owner reported that the speed limiter is rather liberal on all RS cars, with 'limited' original top speed of 270 km / h (167 , 8 mph) are possible to achieve. Using lower octane gasoline assessed, such as the standard 95 RON "Premium" unleaded will reduce engine power output, and has a logical reduction in performance.
Luggage capacity, measured according to VDA block method in Avant ranges from 455 liters (16.07 cubic feet) to 1,590 liters (56.15 cu ft) with the rear seats folded. For the saloon, the boot holds 424 liters (14.97 cubic feet).
C5 powertrain
For the C5 RS6 powertrain detail, the internal combustion engine is all-aluminum alloy 4172 cubic centimeters (254.6 cu in) twin-turbocharged ('biturbo'), double overhead camshaft, 5 valves per cylinder version of the Audi 4.2-liter 90 ° V8 gasoline engine (parts code prefix: 077, identification code: BCY), developed and manufactured in Germany and the UK by quattro GmbH and Cosworth Technology (now known as Mahle Powertrain). With the addition of two turbochargers (one per cylinder bank), which is the motive power of the V8 engine output increased to 331 kilowatts (450 PS; 444 bhp) at 5700 to 6400 rpm, and the resulting 580 newton meters (428 lbf • ft) of torque. The combination of the 4.2-liter V8, variable inlet valve timing and twin turbochargers gave the RS6 a very broad power band, with peak torque available from 1,950 rpm to 5,600.Further details of the machine including fully electronic sequential fuel injection with multi-point intake manifold fuel injection -sited, [4] mapped direct ignition system [5] with the distribution of high-voltage solid-state uses eight individual-spark ignition coils and NGK longlife spark plugs, and three knock sensor. Bosch Motronic engine management uses [6] ME 7.1.1 engine control unit, which controls all functions of the machine operation; including fuel delivery, ignition system, valve timing, the emission control system, and control torque-reduction last operation in conjunction with Bosch ESP 5.7 Electronic Stability Programme, as part of the "Anti-slip Regulation" (ASR) traction control system. This machine is compatible with European Union Euro3 (EU3) standard, and includes two main close-coupled catalytic converter (CATS), the two main cat underfloor, and four heated oxygen sensors that manage Bank cylinder selective lambda control. This results in CO 2 emissions rating of 350 g / km for the Avant and saloon in a standard configuration.
It has an electronically controlled five-speed ZF 5HP24A tiptronic automatic transmission (parts code prefix: 01L, identification code: GAG) (-1st gear ratio: 3.571, 2: 2,200, 3: 1,505, 4: 1000, 5: 0.804), with a key -up torque converter in all forward gears. Has "hill detection" capability, and, despite many press articles stating that the gearbox is programmed to "blip" the throttle to change gear downshift, no British owners never found this feature to be present. The transmission control unit ECU incorporates "fuzzy logic" with "Dynamic Shift Program" (DSP), with a corresponding shift pattern adapting individual driving style. Manual control 'Tiptronic' can be achieved by either the gear shift lever is floor-mounted, or steering wheel mounted 'paddles'.
Audi RS6 is only available with the Torsen-based quattro permanent four-wheel drive, utilizing the Torsen T-2 dynamic 'automatic torque biasing' (ATB) center differential (diff), the unit used in the modified 6.0-liter W12 Audi A8 D2 -Powered. Torque from the engine is transmitted from the first to the gearbox output shaft Torsen center diff, and then automatically divided and apportioned between front and rear axles.
Difference in the front and rear axle (ratio: 3.197) is the conventional "open" type, but utilizing an "Electronic Differential Lock" (EDL). EDL is integrated additional functions of Bosch Stability Programme Electronic (ESP) system, and works by monitoring and comparing the speed roadwheel individuals across the axle, and braking a wheel of individuals who feel they have lost traction (spinning), thereby transferring torque across the axle to the wheel / tires that do not have a handle. "Anti-Slip Regulation" (ASR), better known as traction control system completes Bosch ESP aids the driver-related.
Suspension and steering C5
Utilizing the same fully independent four-link front suspension, double wishbone and rear, as related to the A6 and S6, RS6 lowered by 20 millimeters (0.79 in), with a spring rate of 30% more rigid and 40% increase in the compression damping. RS6 also served as a model debut for "Audi's Dynamic Ride Control" (DRC) system. DRC mainly mechanical systems, and use the pump to provide additional pressure to the individual dampers (shock absorbers) during cornering, acceleration or braking; to counteract rolling and pitching. The system can adjust the stiffness of each individual damper continue; to maintain both a comfortable ride on the straight, and a high level of composure and grip during hard cornering, accelerating or braking. DRC The main advantage is that it operates without the need for complex electronic, as required in similar systems from Mercedes-Benz and other competitors. Its main weakness is that the DRC dampers have been known to fail (leaking fluid from the circuit cross-linked), which can affect vehicle handling and ride quality; some owners have reported needing some replacement of defective units DRC and many drivers have chosen to replace the system with a simpler and more reliable aftermarket coilover suspension.Rack and pinion speed-sensitive "Servotronic" p
ower steering is also standard, with a ratio of 16.2, and a turning circle of 11.4 meters (37.4 ft).
C5 brakes, wheels and tires
Front brake features an 8-piston fixed Brembo monoblock brake calipers, working with radial vented and cross-drilled brake discs, sized at 365 millimeters (14.4 in) in diameter, with 34 mm (1.34 in) thick. Rear features single-piston floating calipers with ATE-operated parking brake mechanism integrated wiring, mated with radial vented and cross-drilled discs, measuring 335 mm (13.2 in) to 22 mm (0.87 in). Front and rear brake calipers finished in high-gloss black paint, with front combines Audi "RS" logo. Both front and rear disc held by metal pins into the disc hub light, and allow 1.0 mm (0.039 in) of lateral thermal expansion of the central hub.
Bosch ESP 5.7 Electronic Stability Programme, the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA) is a standard fitment.
There are a total of three original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) roadwheel and tire types are produced for the RS6. In Europe and elsewhere, 19-inch wheels are standard, with optional 18-inch package. In the US market, 18-inch package was the only victim available. 18-inch winter package, with tires Dunlop SP Winter Sport M3 (225/45 ZR18 95V) is universally available.
For 18-inch wheels, tires 255/40 ZR18 was standard equipped with eXtraLoad 99Y XL (XL) rating. This often stressful, and it is the only recommendation by Audi as RS6 not weigh 1,865 kilograms (£ 4,112). The tires are not rated XL are not safe (or legal in most countries) to use. The owner reported finding Continental ContiSportContact 2, Dunlop SP Sport 9000, Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 and Pirelli P-Zero Rosso as OEM supplier for tires in the RS6. However, according to ETKA, Dunlop and Pirelli tires are then withdrawn from the legal supply, and Continental SportContact 2 has been replaced by SportContact 3. The additional tires from Bridgestone has now been included as an officially recommended fitment, the Potenza RE050A.
For 19-inch wheels, standard tires 255/35 ZR19 96Y comes the XL. However, there is debate about how safe the 19-inch wheels and tires that, as ranking XL reaches 96 Load Index (710 kg (£ 1565) the value of the load). Instead, 255/40 ZR18 XL will get 99 index load, good for 775 kg (£ 1,709) per tire. Currently, the official tire of ETKA recommended for 19-inch rims only includes Michelin Pilot Sport PS2, Continental ContiSportContact 3 and Vredestein Ultrac sessanta also 96Y XL.
C5 RS6 Plus
Audi RS6 Plus, which shows the 'optical black' and anthracite wheels
Between April 2004 and September 2004, there is a limited run of the RS6-end performance even higher, named Audi RS6 Plus. It has an increased engine power output (identification code: BRV), and generate more than 350 kilowatts (476 PS; 469 bhp) at 6.000 to 6.400 rpm, with the same 580 newton meters (428 lb • ft) of torque at 1.950 to 6.000 rpm , This engine was also developed and produced in the UK by Cosworth Technology (now known as Mahle Powertrain). Additional
performance achieved by the new engine control unit (ECU), and two additional cooling radiator side rear-mounted intercooler (this is standard fitment on standard RS6 in hot climate countries). Official performance figures show the discipline to run from rest to 100 kilometers per hour (62.1 mph) in 4.4 seconds. RS6 Plus running at 200 km / h (124.3 mph) in 20.36 seconds, and has an official top speed of 280 km / h (174.0 mph).
RS6 Plus comes with Dynamic Ride Control (DRC) as standard, and also includes a no cost option of "Sports Suspension Plus", which is a standard sports suspension lowered by over 10 millimeters (0.39 in) over the standard RS6. A revised steering rack, with a decrease in the ratio of 14.3 for a firmer feel of the steering is included, and produce a turning circle of 11.7 meters (38.4 ft). The brakes now include cross-drilled discs. The wheels are only available in 9Jx19-inch '5-arm design' alloy, finished in "anthracite" (dark gray), with tires 255/35 ZR19 96Y XL.
The car was only available as an Avant, and only sold in the European market. Visual difference to the RS6 Plus including "optical black pack", which consists of black color with the framing of the radiator grille, exterior window trim, tailgate lower trim, roof rails, and the exhaust tailpipes. It quickly sold out after it was released (999 units in total). The last three digits of the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) is reproduced on a plaque inside the car, displayed on the center console.
C5 RS6 in car racing
Champion Racing Audi RS6 Competition
RS6 used in the North American SPEED World Challenge GT Series of racing car for three years - 2002 to 2004, claiming wins championship manufacturers' successively in all three years. [10] Once again, a special race derivative Twin-man turbo V8 engine developed and manufactured in the UK by Cosworth Technology (now known as Mahle Powertrain). However, the 2005 season proved to be difficult because of restrictions imposed on the performance by the Champion Audi Racing Sports Car Club of America (SCCA), with Champion decided to run various roadwheel diameter, and trade-offs reduce the pressure boost.RS6 challenged by a factory supported Cadillac CTS-V, but still won. Champion Racing Audi RS6 decided to withdraw from the series, citing the rules and regulations Audi dominant unfairly targeted.

The second generation of the RS 6, then called the Audi RS 6 5.0 TFSI quattro (Typ 4F) is based on the Volkswagen Group cars C6 platform and launched in September 2007 at the Frankfurt Motor Show. With a factory production began in April 2008, it was available in Europe on the same date, and began to be exported elsewhere in 2009. The total production run of C6 RS 6 is 8,000 units, with 6,500 became Avants and saloons rest. [11] The RS 6 was not available in North America, leaving Audi S6 as the best performance trim there. (The popularity of the wagon makes it unlikely that the RS 6 Avant will be imported, and although it has been rumored that the RS 6 sedan will be offered in the United States, [12] no one comes out of this as the RS 6 US regulations importer could not clear). [13] Production C6 RS 6 ended in the third quarter of 2010.
RS 6 engine's 5.0L biturbo V10 that produced 426 kilowatts (579 PS; 571 bhp) at 6250 to 6700 rpm, and 650 newton meters (479 lbf • ft) of torque from 1,500 to 6,250 rpm, 52 kW (71 PS; 70 bhp) and 150 N • m (£ 111 • ft) more than the BMW 5.0L V10 engine. In January 2010 the Audi RS6 is the most powerful car ever, and positioned the car in front of his nearest competitor, the BMW M5 and Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG in terms of engine output, both have a naturally aspirated engine. But the estimated price of the RS 6 sedan in 2010 was $ 160,000 USD (other sources quote $ 126,000 USD in 2009, making the RS 6 may be too costly for the US market that sets it apart from variants of the performance of other executive cars: the MrsP BMW M5 is $ $ 85,700, from the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG is $ 87,700 USD, and the Audi S6 alone is $ 78,025 USD.
Official performance figures for the Avant: 4.6 seconds for 0-100 kilometers per hour (62.1 mph) run, 12.7 seconds 0-200 km / h (124.3 mph), and the top speed is electronically limited to 250 km / h (155.3 mph), [21] with a factory option to de-restrict the top speed to 274 km / h (170.3 mph). In standard form, CO 2 emissions are rated at 333 g / km. Saloon reaches 0-100 km / h (62.1 mph) in 4.5 seconds.
C6 bodywork and styling
Audi RS6 Avant quattro (C6)
Five-door version of the C6 RS 6 Avant launched in April 2008, and the four-door sedan / saloon available from August 2008. Built of steel monocoque (unibody) design, the RS 6 uses for its lightweight aluminum front wings (fenders) and bonnet (hood).
Visually, the RS 6 is different from that associated S6, has flared front and rear wheel arches (fenders), harking back to the original Audi Quattro, to allow for a wider wheel track. It also does not have a front fog lights to allow greater air intake frontal (for the two side-mounted intercooler (SMICs), and an additional radiator). Ten (per side) front light-emitting diode (LED) daytime running lights (DLR) which is located inside the headlamp main housing in the RS 6 to increase the size of the air intakes, while the LED is similar (but five per side) on the associated S6 is found adjacent to fog lamps in the front bumper lower. LED lighting technology is also used in the rear lights. RS 6 also includes adaptive light, which swivel in corners in conjunction with the steering wheel movement. Facelifted Audi A6, was released as a 2009 model, received a similar front and rear styling LED lighting for which pioneered the RS 6.
Luggage capacity, measured according to VDA 'block method' in Avant ranges from 565 liters (19.95 cubic feet) to 1,660 liters (58.62 cubic feet).
C6 powertrain
Machine (part code: 07L, identification code: BUH) of the Audi RS6 is what is claimed to be the first all-aluminum 5.0-liter even firing (4,991 cc (304.6 cu in)) 90 ° V10 twin-turbocharged ("biturbo" ), Fuel Stratified Injection (FSI), with dry sump lubrication system. This machine is associated with naturally-aspirated V10 found in the Audi R8, S6 and S8, and the Lamborghini Gallardo, but the RS 6 engine has about 400 unique parts. This engine has four valves per cylinder, with chain-driven double overhead camshafts and variable valve time [for both inlet and exhaust camshafts. Charged intake air is cooled by two side-mounted intercooler (SMIC) s. This machine is controlled by two Bosch DI-Motronic ME 9.1.2 engine control unit, which acts as a 'master' and 'slave': two ECU necessary because high revs the engine can reach. It also uses a direct mapped ignition system with ten individual direct-acting coil spark, an electronic drive-by-wire throttle (Bosch "E-Gas"), cylinder-selective knock control, and adaptive Bank cylinder lambda control, utilizing eight lambda sensors.
A total of seven radiators and four electric cooling fan is required to cool the engine and related components under the hood of aluminum RS6.
Drive output passes 6HP26A modified ZF six-speed tiptronic automatic transmission. 9Is section 09E code and the identification code or KZH KZQ. Gear ratios are: 1: 4.171, 2: 2,340, 3: 1.521, 4: 1,143, 5: 0.867, 6: 0.691, with a short time shift, with "Dynamic Shift Program" (DSP) and the "Sport" mode. It has a paddle-shifts mounted behind the steering wheel flat trustworthy, similar in design to the B7 Audi RS 4. The gearbox is set by default, in a conventional automatic mode, for delaying up-changes during acceleration, and change the previous down to maximize engine braking. Downchanges in all modes of operation including the Powertrain Control Module electronic control unit (ECU) "blipping" Bosch "E-Gas" drive by wire throttle, smooth shift change. Hydraulic torque converter including a lock-up function on all the front teeth, and able to decide when the vehicle is stationary, thus saving fuel.
Like all Audi "RS" model, the RS 6 is equipped with permanent four-wheel drive Audi's 'trademark' quattro as standard. RS version 6 using asymmetric dynamic 40:60 front-to-rear torque distribution from the latest congenital Torsen T-3 'automatic torque biasing' (ATB) center differential. This latest incarnation of the Torsen quattro, first seen in the B7 RS 4, can automatically dynamically divide up to a maximum of 100% of torque to the rear axle, or up to 80% in the future, depending on traction conditions.
Front and rear final drive conventional "open" the difference (ratio 3.317), and uses Audi's "Electronic Differential Lock" (EDL). EDL is a part, or "function", from Bosch ESP 8.0 Electronic Stability Programme, which also includes "Anti-Slip Regulation" (ASR) traction control system. EDL does not lock the differential in the traditional sense, but using electronics to compare the speed of two wheels on the axle, and brakes each wheel feel to have lost traction (with the wheels rotate faster than the opposite, outside the normal accepted deviations). This braking wheel slip has the effect of transferring torque to the wheel axle on the other, which is assumed to still have traction.
C6 steering and suspension
Like the previous RS6 and B7 RS 4 generation of the RS 6 includes "Dynamic Ride Control" Audi (DRC) Sports suspension system. The system is mainly mechanical, using a pump to put additional pressure on the relevant diagonal damper (shock absorber) when cornering, to counteract rolling and pitching. The system can dynamically adjust the stiffness of each damper constantly to maintain both a comfortable ride and high grip. In this version, he has a degree of control in three directions, can be selected from the Multi Media Interface control.
The steering system includes a rack and pinion depends kecepatan- "Servotronic" power steering, with a ratio of 12.5, and a turning circle of 12.2 meters.
C6 brakes, wheels and tires
Standard brakes on the RS 6 are cross-drilled, vented radial floating discs and iron. In front of them 390 millimeters (15.35 in) in diameter and 36 mm (1.417 in) thick, black gloss clamped by six-piston fixed Brembo monoblock calipers alloy combines "RS" logo, and behind them 356 mm (14.02 in ) in diameter and 28 mm (1.102 in) with a black single-piston floating calipers and integrated electro-mechanical parking brake linkage. Parking brake doubles as a full emergency brake while the car is moving, by applying maximum braking effort to the four wheels, thus activating the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS).
Optional "Audi ceramic" Carbon fiber-reinforced Silicon Carbide (C / SiC) composite front brake is available only with 20-inch roadwheels, which uses 420 mm (16.54 in) in diameter of 40 mm (1.575 in) thick drilled, vented, and floating SGL Carbon composite discs, with gray painted eight piston Alcon alloy monobloc fixed calipers with the "Audi ceramic" logo.
Regardless of the type of construction discs, all disc brakes mounted through the installation of high-strength steel pin that connects to 'work' the disk surface for light alloy disc hub.
A special 'tuned' 'sport-biased "Bosch ESP 8.0 Electronic Stability Programme is standard, and includes Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA). The ESP system has three settings are user selectable: "ESP-on" - the default mode is standard full protection, "ESP-sportmode" (deadly ASR and function traction EDL), and "ESP-off" (which completely disables all ' stability 'and' traction 'related functions).
Standard wheel (in the UK) which 9.5Jx20-inch '5-segment-spoke' design alloy wheels running on 275/35 ZR20 102Y XL (eXtra Load) tires (rated at 850 kilograms (£ 1,874) per tire), with the official inventory be either Pirelli P-Zero Rosso or Dunlop SP SportMaxx GT. There is no cost option 9.5Jx20 '7-arm double-spoke' design (style synonymous with B7 RS 4), or 9Jx19 inch -spoke '10 'design alloy with 255/40 ZR19 Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 tires.

Predecessor C6 RS6 (Typ 4F)
On November 20, the 2012 Audi announced to debut version of the RS6 Avant in 2013 Detroit Auto Show.
Audi reveals details of C7 RS6 on December 5, 2012. Its 4.0 TFSI twin-turbo V8 engine develops 425 kilowatts (578 PS; 570 bhp) and 700 newton meters (516 lbf • ft) of torque. This will allow the RS6 Avant to accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour (62.1 mph) in 3.5 seconds. Top speed is limited to 250 kilometers per hour (155.3 mph) by default. By adding the optional Dynamic or Dynamic Plus package, that rate rises to the top of each of 300 kilometers per hour (186.4 mph) or 325 kilometers per hour (201.9 mph).
